About Me

I am a preschool teacher turned stay at home mom. I love art, science, storytelling, children's songs, pie, strange holidays, big messes, Douglas Adams, mismatched socks, baby feet, ice cream, thrift stores, state parks, cold beer, live music, church picnics, old friends, mud pies, Rachel Carson,  family reunions, hot coffee, Harry Potter, watermelon, hand prints on walls, sweet kisses from sweet babies, and sleeping, but not necessarily in that order.

I have three children. Big Sis is my 14 year old. She loves to read and stays very busy in school and with friends. I don't write about her enough, partly because she is never around, partly because she runs away every time she sees me with a camera, but mostly because she is 13 and therefore doesn't want me in her business at all.

Birdy is 6. She is a ball of energy. She is drawn by some mysterious force to mud of any kind. She is never clean, ever. She is happiest in a tree, or upturning all the stones in the yard looking for worms. She will only wear a dress if I don't want her to, and she will never ever wear one to church.

Bug is my youngest and my only boy. He wants to do what ever his sisters are doing no matter how difficult. He is very determined.  He has a fascination with shoes and cars. He is learning so much every day I just can't keep up with it.

I named my blog Sense of Wonder after reading Rachel Carson's The Sense of Wonder and stumbling across this quote...

"If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in."

This is what I want to be for my children. I write about raising my three children with open hearts, creative spirits and a sense of wonder about the world around them through play based learning, and creative expression and thoughtful parenting. I hope that you enjoy our journey.
